【概要】 更なる低コスト化、バリアフリー対策を施して登場した車両。 試作車は901系として1992年に（後に209系900・910・920番台に改造）、量産車両は1993年に登場。 その後のJR東日本一般型車両の基本設計はこの形式からの流れを大きく汲んでいる。 2008年からはE233系導入に伴い京浜東北線の車両の転用が行われ、房総地区・南武線・京葉線などへ、また2018年からは総武緩行線の500番台が武蔵野線・八高・川越線へ転属となった編成がいる。 【掲載車両リスト】 在系列名稱定名為209系後，三列列車改稱為此系列車的900、910和920番台列車，並於1994年（平成6年）1至3月間換上量產版列車（0番台）的組件，使三列試作車與量產車外觀上沒有分別。 初期試作車的上方的彩帶顏色為黑色，改造後則改成現時的天藍色。 雖然外觀上改造至跟0番台非常相似的外型，但運作的機器並沒有更換，結果試作車的車身老化的程度比0番台更顯著。 【鉄道走行音 209系の試作編成】jr東日本209系910番台 ＜東芝gto-vvvf＞jr京浜東北線・jr根岸線 （各停）大宮→桜木町→大船収 録 日 ：1997年10月29日 The moving live cam shows you around this magnificent city situated on the shore of the Gulf of Finland, in the region of Uusimaa.
